LuxLife Web Design
Designing Websites to Promote Our App
Summary
Not only did I design an app start to finish and a bunch of content to promote it, I also designed two different websites for LuxLife. The first website that I designed was for promotion before launch and was used to collect contact info from potential users. This one made it to being published and I setup WordPress and hosting for it. The second website that I designed was for promotion after launch of the app. This one never made it to being published.

Website #1 And My Nontraditional Tasks
The First Website Design
After working on the app for a while, the founders decided we needed a website to advertise our app and to collect emails for our waitlist. This process went a little differently. I started with researching what other apps do for their websites. I sketched out a home page, an about page and a contact page. Then I built those designs directly in WordPress using Elementor. I also designed the images for the website.
My Nontraditional Tasks
Since LuxLife is a startup, I was the only one who knew anything about domain names, hosting and WordPress. So the job fell to me. I arranged with the founders to purchase a domain name and hosting. I then installed WordPress on those. I also installed all the plugins I thought we would need.
Website #2 And My Very Limited Time Frame
The Second Website Design
Towards the end of the design of the app, we were told by the developers that we needed to design another website. This website would function as the main website for the app after it launches. My coworker and I researched what other apps did. I planned out all the pages, what copy we needed for them and what images we needed. Then I did some quick sketches of each page and created mock-ups for them.
My Very Limited Time Frame
This website design happened on a very fast timeline. My coworker and I were told we needed to design another website on a Thursday night. We were also told it needed to be done the next Monday morning. I spent the next 3 days working on it all day.
What I Learned
I learned even more about website hosting and domain names than I already had while working on my own websites. I also learned that, when working with a startup, sometimes you have to take on tasks that are not traditionally part of your role because you are the only one who knows anything about the subject.
